About St. Paul's School

St. Paul's School was established in the 1950's as a Mother's Day Out Program serving very young children through age three.     In 1973, a Week Day School was added providing enriching educational experiences for three year olds and four year olds.  This program became successful and was widely acclaimed throughout the city.  The Kindergarten program was added in 1982.

In 1986, St. Paul's School became the first school in Houston and among the first in the country to be accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as meeting national standards of quality in early childhood education. Accreditation has been maintained each year since 1986.    On July 31, 2007, St. Paul's School was granted accreditation status under the new program standards and criteria, once again being one of the first schools in the Houston area to achieve this recognition.   For more information about NAEYC accreditation, please visit www.naeyc.org or call 1- 800-424-2460.    St. Paul's School is also licensed by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services,  and is inspected annually by the City of Houston Fire Department.

During the 1995-96 school year the school's two spacious playgrounds were extensively refurbished under the guidance of Dr. Joe Frost, a nationally recognized playground expert.  All toys, structures, and swings not in accordance with federal safety standards were replaced with new equipment.   Currently plans are underway to renovate both playgrounds again.

St. Paul's School has a strong commitment towards children by offering them the finest foundation in a context of Christian faith and caring. Classrooms with learning centers are designed to help young children learn through discovery and play.  Emphasis is placed on developing each child's self-esteem and on developing the creative potential of each child.    The school speaks to the needs of families by providing quality care for their children and by providing them with good parenting skills through parent education and parent participation events.  It is St. Paul's School's goal to provide a positive, healthy, loving and fun environment for each child.

Our Staff

St. Paul's School teachers and staff are special people.  The goal of every staff member is to help each child grow in a well-rounded way: socially, emotionally, spiritually, physically and intellectually. Teachers carefully plan activities that allow children to express themselves, experience freedom of choice, and develop self-reliance and spontaneity.   The staff is highly qualified and most of our teachers have four year degrees.  Some have or are working on a Child Development Associate (CDA), an associate degree in early childhood, or an education degree.   Many of the staff have been teaching here a very long time.   All staff is certified in First Aid, Infant, Child and Adult CPR, and receive at least 20 hours per school year in continuing education by attending national, state or local conferences and workshops.
